Why College Students Should Eat Breakfast

Busy Schedules

As a college student, it can be tempting to skip breakfast for a few extra minutes of sleep or to rush to a morning class.
Many adapt to the habit of not eating breakfast, unaware of the effects it may be causing them. Research shows the benefits of eating breakfast for students, providing essential nutrients and energy needed for mental and physical performance throughout the day.

Benefits of Breakfast

Improved Academic Performance: A study by the Food Research and Action Center shows that students who eat breakfast perform better academically, with higher test scores and better attendance rates.
Increased Energy and Concentration: Breakfast provides the body with essential nutrients, including carbohydrates, protein, and fiber, which are necessary for maintaining energy levels and concentration throughout the day. Skipping breakfast can lead to fatigue, lack of focus, and a decrease in productivity.
Improved Mood: Breakfast can also have a positive effect on mental health, improving mood and reducing stress levels.

    1. Thank you for your response! I typically also grab a quick bar but I realize I feel very tired still in the mornings and not energized compared to a more filling and nutritious breakfast. Planning ahead and making a schedule really helps staying on track with it.

  4. Dear Angelina,
I love your blog! I found it so nice to read because breakfast is my least favorite meal of the day. I never eat breakfast because most breakfast foods are gross, so if I do it is usually a granola bar. However, when you included the study it makes sense why I do feel less concentrated. Food makes me sleepy, but if I eat cereal I do feel like I can pay attention more in morning classes. Nice job!

    1. Thank you! Something like the avocado toast is light on the stomach so it might not make you sleepy but has the carbohydrates to give you energy like in the cereal! It is really important, and I am glad even though you do not like breakfast you chose to read my blog!

  5. Hi Angelina, your blog provides new, helpful information. It is a struggle to eat breakfast every morning because of preparation time. When I get done making breakfast, I run out the door, shoving it in my face. As a result, I have an upset stomach for the rest of the day. Preparing the night before is a great suggestion! I have personally tried making overnight oats, and I believe any college student can handle them. The recipe is easy, and you can add different ingredients!
